Carroll County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 25.
Today, during open session, the Carroll County Board of Commissioners (BOC) voted unanimously to instruct County Attorney Tim Burke to explore joining on-going litigation against opioid manufacturers and distributors and to bring back the information to the BOC accordingly.
County Attorney Burke gave the board background information on the litigation currently occurring nationwide where hundreds of municipal and county governments, including many in Maryland, are currently pursuing litigation against leading opioid manufacturers and distributors. The litigation seeks to recover the governments’ medical, public health and law enforcement costs related to opioid abuse.
The vote gives the County Attorney direction to contact outside counsel to explore Carroll County’s options regarding related litigation and to report findings at a future meeting.
